What is Interventional
Radiology (IR) ?
Interventional radiology (IR) is a specialized field within radiology. In interventional radiology, doctors not only interpret your medical images, but they also perform minimally invasive surgical procedures through small incisions in the body.

Professional doctors are ready for your health
In the era of minimally invasive medicine, interventional radiology (IR) is a vital component of modern medical practice. Various disorders such as aortic aneurysms, peripheral vascular disease (pain on walking, leg ulcers), varicose veins, uterine fibroids, liver tumours, deep vein thrombosis, etc, can be treated with interventional radiological techniques.
IR treatments are not only minimally invasive but are proven to be safe, less complicated, ensure a quicker recovery and offer equivalent or sometimes superior results to the conventional management of these disorders.
IR techniques use specialised angiography machines, to visualise the vascular system of the body, and treat the disease, with stents, balloons, embolisation particles, under local anaesthesia.
This obviates the need for large incisions, general anaesthesia, prolonged ICU care. Through this website, we hope to provide you with information about the procedures performed, benefits of Interventional Radiology and where we offer these facilities. We would regularly update various practical cases, their treatments and follow up advice.

Most IR treatments begin with the prick of a needle. The interventional radiologist—who is trained in image-guided, minimally invasive therapies—directs a thin wire and a catheter, the size of a strand of spaghetti, through a blood vessel treat the source of pain or disease. It may sound futuristic, but that’s exactly how some of the most innovative and effective treatments in medicine are happening today. Interventional radiology treatments often come with less risk, less pain, shorter recovery times and better outcomes than traditional (open) surgery.
Your radiologist will advise you during your pre-procedure consultation of any nutritional guidelines to follow. Generally speaking, you may be required to stop eating solid foods at midnight before your procedure.
Most procedures involving arteries and veins require a minimum recovery of six hours. For other interventional radiology procedures, you may need to stay one night in the hospital before being discharged. Your care team will inform you of your expected recovery time prior to your appointment. It’s important to note that you will not be able to drive after your procedure. Please be sure to arrange for someone else to accompany you to your procedure and take you home.
Depending on your procedure, age, and medical condition, your sedation level may range from: Minimal – You will be drowsy but able to talk. Moderate – You may fall asleep and be unaware of your surroundings for some of the procedure.
Treatments done by interventional radiologists are minimally invasive. Because they use small incisions (cuts), IR procedures often are less painful than regular surgery. Children get the smallest amount of anesthesia or sedation necessary to be safe and comfortable during an IR procedure.

What our patient's have to say
Dr Rahul Sheth is a very competent Doctor. He is quick to decide on the course of action, given his vast experience, and exudes confidence and assurance to the patient and the patients relatives. Most of all, he is accessible when most needed and gives a patient hearing and simple to understand responses to all questions asked. He is one of the rare doctors to follow up on his own on the patients recovery post the procedure and is willing to cooperate in modifying schedules in case the patient is unable to follow the timelines prescribed for tests post procedure due to genuine reasons. To conclude, the patient can be trusted in the very safe hands of Dr. Sheth blindfoldedly.
